The short version
SanctumPDF provides PDF tools and an AI-powered bank statement converter. Most tools run entirely in your browser. You own your documents — we never see them. You can use the free tier without paying, or subscribe for more features. You can cancel anytime. Don't use the service for anything illegal. That's the gist.
1. Agreement to terms
By accessing or using SanctumPDF (sanctumpdf.com), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the service.
These Terms apply to all users, whether on the Free, Core, or Pro plan.
2. Description of service
SanctumPDF is a web-based application that provides:
- PDF tools — including compress, merge, split, convert to image, fill forms, rotate, reorder, add page numbers, watermark, protect (encrypt), and unlock (decrypt) PDF files
- Bank Statement Converter — an AI-powered tool that extracts transaction data from PDF bank statements and exports it as CSV, Excel, JSON, or OFX
2.1 Client-side processing
The majority of SanctumPDF's tools process files entirely within your web browser using WebAssembly technology. Your PDF files are not uploaded to our servers for these operations.
2.2 AI-powered features
The Bank Statement Converter extracts text from your PDF locally in your browser, then sends only the extracted text (not the PDF file) to Google's Gemini API for structured parsing. See our Privacy Policy for full details on how this data is handled.
3. Accounts
3.1 Registration
You may use some SanctumPDF tools without creating an account. To track usage, access paid features, or save preferences, you must create an account by providing a valid email address and password, or by signing in with Google.
3.2 Account security
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must notify us immediately at hello@sanctumpdf.com if you become aware of any unauthorised access to your account.
3.3 Account accuracy
You agree to provide accurate and complete information when creating your account and to keep this information up to date.
3.4 One account per person
Each account is for a single individual. You may not share account credentials with others or create multiple accounts to circumvent usage limits.
4. Plans and pricing
4.1 Free plan
The Free plan provides access to all tools with daily usage limits as displayed on the pricing page. The Free plan is available indefinitely at no cost. We reserve the right to modify Free plan limits with reasonable notice.
4.2 Core plan
The Core plan is a paid subscription available on a monthly ($5.99 USD/month) or annual ($49.99 USD/year) basis. It provides unlimited use of core PDF tools, increased file size limits, and additional Bank Statement Converter extractions as described on the pricing page.
4.3 Pro plan
The Pro plan is a paid subscription available on a monthly ($14.99 USD/month) or annual ($129.99 USD/year) basis. It includes everything in Core plus higher Bank Statement Converter limits, batch processing, and priority support as described on the pricing page.
4.4 Price changes
We may change subscription prices with at least 30 days' notice. Price changes will take effect at the start of your next billing cycle after the notice period. If you do not agree with a price change, you may cancel your subscription before it takes effect.
5. Payments and billing
5.1 Payment processing
All payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing to a paid plan, you agree to Stripe's Terms of Service. We do not store your payment card details.
5.2 Billing cycle
Monthly subscriptions are billed on the same date each month. Annual subscriptions are billed on the same date each year. Your subscription begins immediately upon successful payment.
5.3 Automatic renewal
Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date. You will be charged the then-current subscription price at renewal.
5.4 Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings page or via the Stripe customer portal. Upon cancellation:
- Your paid features remain active until the end of your current billing period
- You will not be charged again after the current period ends
- Your account reverts to the Free plan at the end of the paid period
- No partial refunds are provided for unused time within a billing period
5.5 Refunds
Subscription payments are generally non-refundable. However, if you experience a technical issue that prevents you from using the service, contact us at hello@sanctumpdf.com within 7 days of payment and we will assess your request on a case-by-case basis.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to use SanctumPDF to:
- Process documents that contain illegal content or that you do not have the right to access
- Attempt to circumvent usage limits through automated means, multiple accounts, or any other method
- Use automated scripts, bots, or scraping tools to access the service
- Interfere with or disrupt the service, its servers, or connected networks
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the service
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute access to SanctumPDF without our written consent
- Use the service in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms without notice.
7. Intellectual property
7.1 Your content
You retain full ownership of all documents and files you process through SanctumPDF. We claim no ownership, licence, or rights over your content. Since files are processed in your browser, we never have access to or possession of your documents.
7.2 Our content
The SanctumPDF name, logo, website design, and application code are owned by Lars Holmström. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the SanctumPDF service without our written permission.
7.3 Feedback
If you provide us with feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the service, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use that feedback to improve SanctumPDF. This does not apply to your documents or personal data.
8. Accuracy and output quality
8.1 PDF tools
SanctumPDF's PDF tools (compress, merge, split, etc.) process files using open-source libraries and WebAssembly. While we strive for high-quality output, we do not guarantee that output files will be identical to input files in every respect, or that compression will achieve specific file size reductions.
8.2 Bank Statement Converter
The Bank Statement Converter uses AI to extract and structure transaction data from PDF bank statements. While we strive for accuracy:
- AI extraction is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate. You should always review extracted data before using it for accounting, tax, or financial purposes.
- Output accuracy depends on the quality and format of the input PDF. Scanned, handwritten, or poorly formatted statements may produce less accurate results.
- SanctumPDF is not a financial advisor, accounting service, or tax preparation tool. We provide data extraction only.
- You are responsible for verifying the accuracy of all extracted data. We are not liable for errors in financial records, tax filings, or business decisions made based on data extracted by SanctumPDF.
9. Service availability
9.1 Availability
We aim to keep SanctumPDF available 24/7 but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control.
9.2 Client-side functionality
Because most tools run in your browser, their performance depends on your device's hardware, browser version, and available memory. We cannot guarantee performance on all devices or browsers.
9.3 Changes to the service
We may add, modify, or remove features at any time. We will provide reasonable notice for significant changes that affect paid features. If a change materially reduces the functionality of a paid plan, you may cancel your subscription and we will provide a pro-rata refund for the remaining period.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- SanctumPDF is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or business interruption.
- Our total liability to you for any claims arising from or related to the service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $50 USD, whichever is greater.
- We are not liable for any loss, corruption, or damage to your files. Since files are processed in your browser, you should always retain your original files.
10.1 Australian Consumer Law
If you are a consumer under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010), you may have statutory guarantees that cannot be excluded. Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude, restrict, or modify rights that cannot be excluded under Australian law. To the extent permitted, our liability under such guarantees is limited to resupplying the service or paying the cost of having the service resupplied.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Lars Holmström and SanctumPDF from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:
- Your use of the service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights
- Content you process through the service
12. Privacy
Your privacy is important to us. Our collection and use of personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
13. Termination
13.1 By you
You may stop using SanctumPDF at any time. You may delete your account from your account settings page, which will permanently delete your account data within 30 days.
13.2 By us
We may suspend or terminate your account if:
- You violate these Terms
- You use the service in a way that could harm other users or the service itself
- We are required to do so by law
- We discontinue the service (with reasonable notice)
Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately. We will not delete your data for 30 days after termination in case of accidental termination, after which all data will be permanently deleted.
14. Dispute resolution
14.1 Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia.
14.2 Informal resolution
Before filing any formal legal action, you agree to contact us at hello@sanctumpdf.com and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.
14.3 Jurisdiction
Any legal proceedings must be brought in the courts of Victoria, Australia. You consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of those courts.
15. General provisions
15.1 Entire agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and SanctumPDF regarding the service.
15.2 Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
15.3 Waiver
Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision.
15.4 Assignment
You may not assign your rights or obligations under these Terms without our consent. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.
15.5 Force majeure
We are not liable for delays or failures in performance resulting from circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, internet outages, or third-party service failures.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page
- Notify registered users via email for significant changes
- Post a notice on the website
Your continued use of SanctumPDF after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with updated Terms, you should stop using the service and cancel any active subscription.
